2022 Friend Electric Car Season Summary
The Friend Public School Electric Car Team had another very successful season. Their first race was held April 2nd at West Point. They only took one car to the race as one of the cars wasn’t quite finished. The E13 car dominated taking home first place in the Exhibition class and beating all cars in all the classes. We completed 78 laps on the .55 mile track beating second place Wayne by 3 laps during the 90 minute race.
April 9th the team headed to Lincoln the race was held at the Tractor Testing Facility which is a .42 mile banked oval located on UNL’s East Campus. This time we brought 2 cars E12 and E13 taking home first and second place with both cars completing 71 laps during the 60 minute race, one more lap than 3rd place Wayne. Friend also received the Best Pit Crew Award for our efficient pit stops.
April 23 the race was held in Hastings at Motorsports park. This is our favorite venue as it allows us to show off our superior aerodynamics due to the high speeds maintained at this track. The E 13 car took home the gold completing 32 laps on the 1 mile road course during the 60 minute race. E 12 had to overcome some adversity as the canopy blew off and we had to make an extra pit stop, still coming in 2nd 30 seconds ahead of the Wayne Car.
April 30 in Wayne was our final race of the season taking place over 90 min on a .23 mile track. The weather was cold and windy and it rained off and on the whole day. This race didn’t go nearly as well as the previous three. We lost a canopy in the wind, threw a chain twice and broke a rear wheel knocking the E13 car out of the race with only 87 laps. The E 12 car ran out of juice and only completed 129 laps far short of the 166 we completed last year in a record setting performance. In the end we came in 2nd and 3rd place and took home the best pit crew award. Even though the final race didn’t go as well as hoped overall it was a very successful season that the team can be proud of.
